Putting the ALT Back in Alt-Weekly Design
Newspaper design is too safe these days, and alt-weeklies aren't immune from the problem. Where are the edgy visual statements? Which publications are still vibrant and continuing to evolve? We're going to look at wa-aaay too many covers and layouts from all over AAN-land, and people are going to talk about how satisfied they were with what they did and how their editor was against it or the sales staff all shook their heads later and asked no one in particular "how am I supposed to sell THIS?" Then people are going to say how happy everyone at their whole paper was because of something they designed and everyone in the audience will make a little note and present the idea as their own at their next staff meeting. And the guy who clicks on the arrow to get to the next image is...

In this session, he’ll show a variety of tools and websites and talk about how to highlight these elements with design techniques to help readers engage with them. He’ll also explain how to design and create mobile versions of your website to accommodate a variety of different cell phones/screen sizes and user interfaces experiences.
