Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Lopetegui joined the Current as a news/music writer in 2008, after four years as the music editor of Spanish-language daily Rumbo (Austin, San Antonio, Houston and the Rio Grande Valley). He became the Current's music/screens editor in 2009. Previously, he was the Los Angeles Times freelance Latin pop music critic in 1993-97, and his work has also been published by Billboard, LA Weekly, New Times, Rumbo, La Opinión, grammy.com and Associated Press. He lives in San Antonio with his wife and daughter.
