The first issue of Honolulu Weekly appeared in July 1991. From the beginning, Honolulu Weekly has concentrated on editorial excellence in investigative reporting, feature articles and interviews and coverage of local culture, arts and entertainment. Its calendar section offers the most comprehensive listing of events available in Honolulu, with concise commentary that blends important information with a humorous point of view.

Much of the paper's editorial content is staff-produced, but the editors welcome the new voices and fresh perspectives of freelance contributors. Honolulu Weekly aims to provide its readers with the most entertaining, provocative coverage to be found in Hawaii.
