Metro Spirit To Be Resurrected With Local Ownership
A week after being shut down by Virginia based owners Portico Publications, the Metro Spirit has been purchased by former Sales Director and Publisher Joe White. (White is the sole owner)

White began at what was then the Metropolitan Spirit in 1993 where he remained for 15 years, serving as Sales Director then Publisher. He resigned in 2007 and joined Beasley Broadcast Group as a General Sales Manager and the IT Director.

Returning to its roots, the Metro Spirit will focus on covering local politics and governance, arts, entertainment, people, places and events. The staff will include current and former writers and contributors, plus a host of new voices."I have truly enjoyed my time at Beasley and would especially like to thank Market Manager Kent Dunn for all of his encouragement and support" said White, continuing "really, no one I've spoken with could comprehend the Spirit actually going away. We're ready to hit the ground running and execute our plan-excellent journalism, support of the arts, and probably a little wry wit here and there."

The Metro Spirit will be located on Washington Road and will return to publishing weekly in the very near future. Metro Augusta Parent will return at a later date, as well as other special publications the Spirit is known for.

“Special thanks to Bill Chapman of Portico for being so helpful and supportive during this very abbreviated process, as well as Phillip Scott Hibbard, P.C. for his excellent guidance and support. Also all of the local business people who have given me so much advice and moral support” said White.
