New Haven, Hartford, Fairfield Advocates Merged with Entertainment Weekly

New Haven, Hartford, Fairfield Advocates Merged with Entertainment Weekly

Tribune Co. subsidiary CT1 Media has merged its three Connecticut alt-weeklies — Hartford Advocate, New Haven Advocate, and Fairfield County Weekly — with the entertainment weekly previously published by the daily Hartford Courant.

The new publication is called CTNow.

The move was announced in late October, but received a new round of attention last week when the three papers published their final editions.

The three weeklies had already been publishing their digital content under a single website, CT.com, for the past couple of years.

In an email on October 31, CT1 Media marketing & communications director Jennifer Humes said:
We continuously evaluate and strategically position our resources to most effectively serve our readers, viewers and advertisers. CT1 Media recognizes the importance of the entertainment and dining category and is realigning its suite of entertainment products to deliver up-to-date and complete information online and in print under the CTNow brand.

Entertainment weeklies combining the resources of the Advocates and The Courant will still be published in Hartford, New Haven and Fairfield counties under the CTNow umbrella brand. The "Best Of" franchise will continue.

The Advocate papers were acquired by the Hartford Courant in 1999, and the Tribune Company took over the following year when it purchased the Times Mirror Co.

Tribune sold the Valley Advocate to Newspapers of New England in 2007, and that paper continues to operate in Western Massachusetts.
