It wasn't long ago that New Times Broward-Palm Beach was just a weekly paper with a website on the side. A weekly paper written by reporters who won boatloads of awards, mind you, including the Livingston Award, multiple Green Eyeshade awards, and more state awards than you could shake a tabloid at. In recent years, the dead tree version has given birth to what we'd like to think is Florida's best news website. There's a bit of breaking news, with regular web-only stories. We've got dining news from the Clean Plate Charlie blog. Columnist Bob Norman dishes the scoop on the media with the Daily Pulp blog. The CrossFade blog offers up what you missed in music from yesterday -- and what's happening tonight. And The Juice Blog offers a day's worth of news told in New Times style. So yeah, our print circulation grew tenfold since 1997. But today, we're a daily news website with an order of weekly paper on the side.

Police Brutality Rarely Ends With Punishment for the Cops

There's force, and there's excessive force. Broward Sheriff's Office Commander David Robshaw, who runs the Internal Affairs Division jointly with District Chief John Hale, says civilians tend to confuse the two. The former is pretty much part of a day's work for Broward deputies; the latter happens when situations spin out of control.

Lyrikill.com Bumrushes South Florida TV Reporters

'This is how we do,' whispers the rapper, who calls himself Lyrikill.com. 'We stake it out, and then if you look right over these bushes, you can see they 'bout to go live... And when they go live, that's when we hop out these bushes.'
