SAN DIEGO--Serious homebuyers and virtual Looky Loos can now monitor the pulse of the local real estate market with the simple click of a mouse through the San Diego Reader.

The publisher announced today that it has entered into an alliance with HouseRebate.com that enables online surfers to view MLS listings through the newspaper's website, www.sdreader.com.

"Having easily accessible real estate listings on our website provides a great resource for our online viewers," said Reader project manager Barbara Christensen. "For over 30 years San Diegans have turned to the Reader for their roommate and rental needs. It makes perfect sense for us to assist them in finding their first house or condo."

In addition to MLS listings, the web site provides addresses, sales comps, photos, details such as square footage and number of baths and bedrooms, and community and school information. A link to Google maps includes their new "street view" option which enables visitors to tour streets, take virtual walks and explore landmarks, shops and restaurants.

"San Diegans can access the most comprehensive, up-to-date real estate information from the comfort of their home, office or favorite Starbucks," said Brian Yui, founder and CEO of HouseRebate.com.

Yui explains that there are other advantages as well.

"An automatic email notification signals buyers when a new listing appears," he said. "And search results are not skewed by fee-paid, showcase property listings that appear first."

One feature that is unique to HouseRebate.com is that buyers save 33 percent of the rebate commission, up to 1 percent of a home's sales price. For example, a $500,000 property can deliver up to $5,000 cash back bonus to the buyer.

Yui, a CPA, founded HouseRebate.com in 1999 after recognizing that one of the biggest discrepancies in the real estate industry was the distribution of commissions. It's his out-of-the-box business philosophy that prompted him to forge an alliance with the Reader in July.
