Toronto 2010

Welcome to the 2010 Convention

We at Toronto's NOW Magazine are thrilled to be hosting the AAN Convention this summer July 15 through 17. We're hosts for the second time making us one of the few two-timers in the organization. We have an amazing live music scene, fantastic restaurants and a beautiful location on the water, which, in our case, is a gorgeous, massive lake that would be called a sea anywhere else.

Some attendees of our 1988 convention are still struggling to remember just how they ended up in speakeasies at sunrise with NOW staff but my co-host and business partner Alice Klein and I are confident they do have clearer memories of just how welcoming and non-stop fun Toronto was and how worthwhile the convention itself proved to be.

Our intention is to make this year's event bigger and better, just like AAN itself. Personally I've been finding the AAN conferences to be re-invigorated of late with casual information sharing among colleagues and gathered experts richer than ever and even more freely given. And info I've picked up at conference panels and from speakers has proven essential in terms of mapping the future for my publication both in print, online and in just-emerging technologies. More than ever, AAN is a forward looking organization bringing the same tenacity to creating a resilient and powerful future for our industry as some of us first mustered when we invented this form of publishing a few decades ago.

Through all of the challenges, NOW has managed to keep growing so in addition to wise veterans, you'll find enough Millennials among our staff to make sure late night boozy chats are not all about the good old days but also the great days to come.

Summer temperatures in Toronto range from super comfortable 22 to 28 Celsius -- that's 72 to 80 degrees in U.S. speak -- and the city is anxious to welcome you all. We're getting great feedback from all of our contacts, eager to showcase for you a city we are justifiably proud of, one of the most livable, diverse and biggest in North America. Come to learn, be rejuvenated, stimulated and get your ass-kicked trying to keep up with all of the fun this city has to offer.

See you in July.

All the best,
