Programs
This year we have two full days of Sales training planned, Friday and Saturday, February 1 & 2. Kathi Simonsen and Mike Blinder are our sales trainers, and they both come highly recommended by the AAN community. Kathi Simonsen has spent 23 successful years in publishing and has increased sales for numerous publications during her many years as a trainer. Mike Blinder is a consultant for over 250 media companies worldwide.
The Editorial, Design and Business programs begin at 2pm on Friday and continue all day on Saturday.
The Editorial programs feature Brant Houston, a Pulitzer Prize Winning reporter and former director of Investigative Reporters and Editors Inc; Don Ray, a veteran multimedia investigative reporter and expert on public records research; Tim Redmond, the executive editor of the San Francisco Bay Guardian and AAN First Amendment Chair; and A.C. Thompson, staff reporter at the Center for Investigative Reporting in San Francisco and Polk award winner.
The Design programs feature Don Button, with over 15 years experience designing AAN papers, now a full-time professor teaching digital imaging, print and web design, and newspaper design; Michael Ninness, a frequent speaker and trainer at numerous industry events and the author of several Photoshop books and video training titles (his prior training was highly rated by AAN members); and Katherine Topaz, who has redesigned more than a dozen AAN papers including Boston's Weekly Dig and the San Francisco Bay Guardian, and who now teaches typography and design at the Pacific Northwest College of Art. She is a nationally-recognized speaker on publication design and art direction.
The Business programs feature Doug Moore, who has been the vice president of human resources at Printing Industries of California since 1985, assisting over 2700 members in California in all aspects of human relations and labor laws and regulations; and Charmaine Wagenseller, the vice president of sales & marketing of Continental Commercial Group, a full service, national and international commercial collection agency.
