AltWeekly Awards Lunch

Emcee: Gustavo Arellano
Following his hilarious hosting at AAN's 2008 awards banquet in Philadelphia, Ask a Mexican's Gustavo Arellano returns to Canada. Even more hilarious: The gig gives him a reason to go get a passport. Attendees in 2008 may recall Arellano required all first-place winners to provide a word in Spanish. Finalists may want to start brushing up.

Reception at The Courthouse
7:00 to 10:00 pm

Sponsored by Tourism Toronto

Saturday, July 17
Free Speech Lunch

Featured speaker: Dr. Maher Arar
Canadian victim of American rendition and subsequent torture, Maher Arar is still branded as a terrorist in the U.S. so you won't have a chance to see him there. But since fighting his way out of solitary in Syria, he's shone a bright light on the shadowy side of security practices worldwide. His story is beyond David and Goliath. And we will get to see and hear him live at the AAN Free Speech lunch in Toronto.

Wrap-up Party at Miss Lou's Room
7:30 to 10:30 pm

Miss Lou's Room is located on the second floor of York Quay Centre, Harbourfront, with an excellent view of Lake Ontario.
