Welcome: Fran Zankowski, Colorado Springs Independent
Keynote Speakers: Gary Shapiro and Matt Taibbi
Introduction: Paula Routly, Seven Days

Consumer Electronics Association president/CEO Gary Shapiro will kick off the first full day of sessions by explaining how alt-weeklies can use "ninja innovation" to prepare for — and adapt to — industry change. No one understands the "adapt or perish" mindset better than the scrappy alt news industry, and Shapiro will explain how lessons from tae kwon do (in which he has a black belt) can help alt-weeklies harness their strengths and turn weaknesses into assets.

Lest there be any doubt that alt-weeklies are up to the challenge, Rolling Stone contributing editor Matt Taibbi will follow Shapiro's talk with a reminder that adapting and disrupting is what alts do best.
