Florida: The Weirdest Place in America—and a Perfect Stage for the GOPnew

Even without Herman Cain and that baleful basilisk Mrs. Bachmann, the Republicans refused to be upstaged by the cavalcade of nightmares that's standard fare in the Sunshine State. They showed us they belonged here.

Happytown: RIP Billy Maysnew
Ed McMahon, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, Billy freaking Mays; all these people we've grown up with taking the dirt nap, all within days (or hours) of each other. In the wake of all of this bad news we almost overlooked the most recent economic forecast released by UCF prognosticator Sean Snaith. But we didn't.

My Great Schlep to Florida Was More Surreal than Politicalnew
My Granny has decided on Obama without my help. She admits she was wary of Obama because she heard he was Muslim, but her friends convinced her he's Christian. Her friends also told her John McCain is just like George Bush, and when the stock market crashed, that decided things for her.

Someone Stop Charlie Crist and His Plan to Sell Our Highwaynew

Stop the Florida governor from hawking Alligator Alley to foreign companies. Stop him from leasing the 78 miles of fenced and flat highway stretching across the Everglades to investors who will bleed motorists dry with higher tolls and no accountability to the people.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist Gets a Hero's Medal for Bailing Out Big Sugarnew
Crist's plan to buy U.S. Sugar for $1.75 billion has been described by Florida newspapers as "bold," "ambitious," and "grand." Now it's time to throw "stupid" and "irresponsible" into the mix.

Hillary is Looking Like a Sore Loser, Not a Leadernew
What I find most troubling is Clinton's hypocrisy and disengenuousness. Now she's insisting on "counting all the votes," which is code for counting all the votes in Michigan and Florida. Clinton and her campaign advisers were all for shutting out those two states when it appeared she wouldn't need their votes.

Florida is Stuck on Stupidnew

Here we are again. The earth has orbited the sun. The continents have drifted farther apart. The seasons came and went, as they do. Que sera, sera. But through it all, one ironclad reality remained: Our state is stuck on stupid.
